Energy Transition: Resiliency & Capacity-Building
Globally, advocates for sustainability, corporate responsibility, and social justice are changing the world. The question remaining, however, is 'Are we changing fast enough'? Can we smoothly transtion our mainstream economy and industries away from oil and gas, or should we take a more survivalist tack and craft self-sufficient 'lifeboat' communtities?
The crux of the issue is that peak oil and climate change are global challenges that compete with other ingrained imperatives such as economic growth, lifestyle, and cultural identity; forces that are unlikely to quickly yield except in the face of a major crises.
What's needed, then, are solutions that have a dual purpose - solutions that are desirable within our current economic and political context while building a resilient foundation from which we can reorganize if faced with major economic or environmental shocks.
At the DCP we see this process as strategic capacity-building; building knowledge networks, resilient infrastructures and organizations, and educating our decision makers and leaders.
